This is bull crap. What do any of these things have to do with the Wall Street debacle? This looks like an attempt to get McCain to vote for this thing since he has vowed, if elected, to veto earmarks. Another gotcha!

Here is the text of the Wall Street bailout legislation that will be voted on by the Senate tonight.

H.R. 1424 Bill Text (Warning! 451 pages long! )

Can you freaking believe those earmarks?!?!?!?!

Now I think I understand why Senator McCain kept rambling on about earmarks when he was asked about the bill in the last debate!

I know McCain will vote for the bill (because he pretty much has to), but I hope he proves his mettle by highlighting the earmarks and publicizing the individual(s) inserting that nonsense into the bill.

We need to call and e-mail our senators and tell them no. We need to tell them we will keep track of who votes for it and against it, and that we will vote out those who vote for it. Please tell Hillary this. It is a scam to get Obama elected.

I sure hope he doesn't. If he votes for this, it will destroy any credibility he has considering he made such a big deal about earmarks at the debate. Obama will saturate the tv's interspersing his comments at the debate with commentary on how he voted for earmarks only one week later. Obama people set a trap for him, in my opinion.

Yeah good luck with that. Switchboard busy, emails bouncing back.

We need money for arrows and wool How about they spend some money and upgrade the servers and phones. I can't tell you how mad I am, how are we being represented when we can't even contact the crooks on Capital Hill?

McCain can't vote for this garbage.

It is the same crappy bill the house rejected except now filled w/ pork.

If McCain votes for it then it is game over.
Either the house accepts it and the Dems "solved" the crisis.
Or the house rejects it and come up w/ a seperate proposal and McCain looks out of touch voting for pork filled garbage.

Either way it is a lose-lose.

McCain grow a spine. Say hell no. It can't hurt. Most Americans are against bailout anyways. Say something like: "I support a bill that provides security for the credit markets BUT THIS IS NOT IT. This is MORE OF THE SAME. Politics as usual; putting special interest and personal projects in a crappy bill to get taxpayers to bite".

I am 100% convinced a bailout is needed but it isn't this bill.

I am so freaking upset about this. Just read that BOTH Obama and McCain support it. McCain could have railed against this overwhelmingly unpopular bailout and earmarks in one fell swoop, but no. Seems like it will be politics as usual. Game over. Obama just won the presidency.

McCain is going to eat shit on this if he votes for it. He has gone on and on and on about being against earmarks and then votes for a bailout that is LOADED with earmarks? OMG!!! Totally and completely discredits him.

An explanation at NRO:

Quote:
Those “earmarks” (none of them are spending, they are all tax relief) are not part of the underlying economic recovery bill; they’re part of the tax relief bill that will be attached to the economic rescue bill. The same tax relief bill, by the way, that the Senate passed 93-2 (two Democrats, Carper and Conrad, were the only ‘no’ votes) a couple weeks ago with the same, exact provisions and that the House refused to take up because it didn’t raise taxes to “pay for” the tax relief. Here’s the Senate roll call.

Also, those provisions, while providing tax relief, have not been defined as fitting the guidelines of a “limited tax benefit.” And I don’t recall a single person objecting to the bill or defining any earmarks in the bill when it passed the Senate with the vote of every Republican (and all but two Democrats) that was present for the vote.
I'm less angry now.

Yeah, the Senate cannot start a spending/tax bill on their own, because that's a House function, so they have to attach the bailout bill to an already-passed bill as a 'change' to send back to the House, or else they couldn't start the chain themselves at all.

Wait a minute! How is this Senate bill even constitutional????
Quote:
Clause 1:

All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

I wish McCain would surprise us all and vote "No" on this bill. I can wish in one hand and spit in the other...
